Whether you’re new to professional grooming or simply new to our salon, here’s what you (and your furry family members!) can expect when you book an appointment with us.
Booking Your Appointment
Booking with Island Dog is designed to be simple and straightforward. You can schedule online or reach out directly if you have questions about services, timing, or your pet’s specific needs.
If your pet is older, nervous, has medical considerations, or hasn’t been groomed in a while, we encourage you to let us know upfront. The more we understand about your pet, the better we can tailor the experience (and ensure the maximum tail wagging possible!).
Arrival & Check-In
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a team that knows dogs/cats and, even more importantly, understands that every pet is unique! During check-in, we’ll review your requested services, confirm any notes about temperament or sensitivities, and make sure we’re aligned on expectations. We’ll also clearly and transparently go over pricing, so you know exactly what you’re paying before you leave your pet in the capable and caring hands of your groomer.
We take time here on purpose. Rushed drop-offs can lead to stressed dogs, and that’s just not how we operate.
Our Grooming Approach
We prioritize calm, attentive grooming, and our groomers focus on keeping your pet comfortable throughout the process.
What that means in practice:
- We don’t overbook
- We minimize unnecessary crate time
- We watch closely for signs of stress or fatigue
- We adjust our approach based on your pet’s behavior, age, and comfort level
For some pets, that means a slower pace, and for others, it means taking a treat break or another modification. Our goal is always the same: a positive experience that keeps your pets feeling safe and respected.
During the Appointment
Grooming time varies depending on your pet’s size, coat type, and services requested. We’ll give you a general time window at drop-off and keep you informed if anything changes.
If we notice something important, like skin irritation, matting concerns, or anything that may affect your pet’s comfort, we’ll communicate with you before moving forward.
Pick-Up & Aftercare
When you return, we’ll walk you through how your pet did, any notes from your groomer, and tips for maintaining their coat between visits.
We believe grooming should be a partnership, not a mystery. You should always leave knowing how your pet felt and what to expect next time. Your groomer is dedicated to getting to know your dog and building a long-term, trusting relationship with them (and you!) over time.
We’ll reach out when your pet’s grooming session is complete and they’re ready for pickup. We afford a one hour grace period to allow you ample time to collect them.
